NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY GENERAL INFORMATION:

National Honor Society is an organization with selection for membership based upon the following four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The Gulf Shores Chapter of National Honor Society is advised by Ms. Amanda Reffitt and maintains a membership of approximately fifty students. Members of NHS strive to serve the community and school; members also complete a minimum of fifty community service hours per school year.

If you are an NHS member and have not enrolled on the NHS Canvas page, please contact Mrs. Reffitt immediately. Canvas is the primary source for club information.

If you are interested in running for an NHS office, contact Mrs. Reffitt at the end of the first Fall meeting.

The deadline for submitting completed activity forms is the first week of December for the fall semester and the first week of May for spring semester. Each form should reflect 25 each semester for an annual total of 50 hours. Please remember to keep accurate records and logs of your service hours. A digital copy of the hour log is available on Canvas.

INFORMATION FOR CURRENT MEMBERS:

Annual NHS dues are $25. Fees not paid by October 30th will be assessed a $5 late fee and the members placed on probation per Article V, Section 3 of the by-laws.

THOSE SEEKING TO JOIN NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY:

Consideration for membership requires a student be a current 10th, 11th, or 12th grader and currently maintain a 3.50 minimum GPA (the weighted GPA is used to determine eligibility). This is the minimum requirement for consideration. For additional information please access the by-laws. If you meet the minimum academic criteria for membership, we encourage you to apply to join the Gulf Shores High School chapter. Should you need a copy of the membership application/activity form, please visit the school website for the required form. Printed copies can be made available, see Ms. Reffitt.

Club Information: Sponsors: Amanda Reffitt Eligibility: Membership will be open to students in grades ten, eleven, and twelve at Gulf Shores High School. The minimum grade point average for becoming a member or maintaining membership will be 3.50 weighted GPA. Membership will be open to all students and all diploma types and is based on scholarship, character, leadership, and service demonstrated by the student. Students who have the required GPA will be invited to apply. Completion of a student activity form is required. The faculty will provide input of interested students with the faculty council charged with approving official membership.

Season: The selection of active members will be held once a year during the second semester of the school year.

Meetings: All meeting dates will be posted to Canvas upon conclusion of the first meeting. All meetings will take place during 1st focus in room 129.
